The Nakuru National Park is located around 165 kms north-west of Nairobi, in the Nakuru district of the Rift Valley province. It is spread over a 188 sq km wide area. The Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake that covers around 63 sq.km. Three major rivers - the Njoro, Makalia and Enderit drain into the lake and it also receives water from the fresh water springs along the shore.
Well known of it’s millions of flamingos seek their food in the salty deep-green waters of Lake Nakuru. Around 400 to 500 species of birds including cormorants and pelicans can be found here. However, you may also catch a glimpse of Thomson's gazelles, Grant gazelles, impalas, waterbucks, giraffes, buffaloes, and leopards. This park has become Kenya's premier rhino sanctuary and is now home to both black and white rhinos, totaling to over 80 in number.
